Anica Gikovska is an Australian artist with a Macedonian background. She lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne with a practice based in edible art and contemporary visual art encompassing mixed-media textured wall art and sculptures that combine natural and man-made materials. For Anica, creating art is an essential aspect of her being in which she doesn’t limit herself with the materials she uses.
Her work has a strong connection with nature, which informs both the material and conceptual stories behind each sculpture. Her practice also draws inspiration from a space somewhere between her subconscious and super conscious mind;
“Usually I would get some glimpses during, or straight after meditation when I’m most relaxed and content and in a state of pure joy… Sometimes I reach that place when I start creating. I get lost in the process and just go with the flow, let my subconscious mind guide me. Most of the time I don’t know how the final product will look like and that’s the beauty of it. I love to experiment and push boundaries both with materials and concepts.”
